Solved: Oriental Characters

:dunno I have an interesting predicament. We have an Access database with linked tables to a back end as well as a few that access an Oracle database.

One of our processes involves updating a table in prepararation to export it into the oracle database.

It is a shared database but when certain computers on the network run this update process certain fields are changed into oriental characters.

Anyone know what might cause this, seeing as it only does this on a few computers.:help

I don't know. But it does sound like the individual Access settings of the "rogue" computers.
Is the update process using Queries or VBA?
Have you run the "import part" seperately from the export part to see which section it is happening on?

Well I did some research and our Technical support team lead notified me that it is an Oracle setting that wasn't installed correctly on the computer. Every two years the department gets new computers. Hope I stick around for 2 years. I could use a new computer. Thanks for the help though. I'll post the instuctions to correct the settings if anyone is interested.

Okay just got a call from someone higher than my Technical support contact. She said re-installing Oracle is not an option. So though it has worked in the past. She claims it is a work around and not a solution. So while everyone else's computer works but one user. I'm suppose to reprogram this for one user. Doesn't make sense to me. Post no longer solved.... well it should be but I'm open to suggestions on what settings I should check from the local machine to fix this.

Okay I copied the database to a local machine where I have a test environment setup to reproduce the errors. But after I got the database copied over it now fails to work? When it opens it keeps telling me that it requires an updateable query. The query is hardcoded string don't know why it won't work anymore. Any ideas?
