I'm interested in knowin what you knew about VBA when you visited VBA express for the first time.

Administrative Edit, by firefytr: Added two more poll options (3 & 4). :)

I had watched my son work in vb5 a little and I mean very little. I kinda understood how to insert a userform and a module with a sub to show the form......that's about it. I voted "came with no knowledge of vba"

Didn't know much...

I had recorded and altered my first macro! (see below for what it was..)
I could do a loop to print out the first 3 worksheets of my workbook
I could install a module

I thought about making a list of what I didn't know, but that would take too long. I didn't know much, that is for sure! :)

I came here after a year or so at EE where I picked up most of the basics. My time here has continued the learning process, especially how to do things more efficiently. Thanks to all my "tutors".

Crikey, you really didn't know anything did you?

I came here after a year at EE also. I had written an automated order entry/estimating program which used word for the contract document. I "thought" I knew the Word object model LOL WRONG.:rotlaugh:upgrades change things when you are not looking.

No Bob, I didn't hardly know anything. I was a newbie of newbies. LOL! When I started with Excel, I couldn't figure out how the IF() function worked. Three months later recorded my first macro, a month or so later I was here. Most of my VBA learning was done here. :yes

I voted "some knowledge", although I don't recall actually coming here for specific help. More of a curiosity to see what was here, and if I could answer any questions. I certainly did my fair share of asking in the beginning, though. :)

I've learned a great deal since then, and still continue to do so to this day. ;)

I was teasing, you said your first recorded macro was below, then didn't include it :)

Actually, he did. It wasn't until his second attempt that he figured out that he had to do something once the macro recorder was turned on. :p

I to came here with little or no knowledge just wanted to learn. Have learned some, forgot some and retained some. Lots more to learn though. Thanks to all those that have helped past, present and future.

Don't you mean 'aah Schrodinger'?You have many questions on this day, Grasshopper :thumb

Actually, this "tree falling in a forest" thing is yet another example of the many similarities between eastern 'mysticism' and western 'philosophy' - as embodied in quantum mechanics.

BTW: Ever read "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav, Bob? ... if you haven't, it's an excellent read (may be a bit heavy for some tho)

Can't say I have even heard of it. I will seek it out, could be useful for some long journeys ahead of me.

I came here with some basic VBA knowledge. Almost all of it was geared to my personal projects at work. In the past two years I have begun developing more for other people to use in our department. Although I don't post often here anymore, I still visit when I can and learn more every time.

Just very thankful for all those gurus who put up with old codgers who limp along. :)

Only been here one day! I would say I have a pretty good knowledge of VB and can do pretty much anything I have tried having used it to make my life as an accountant easier over the last few years. The thing I'm proudest of is a customsed option on the menu bar to run my month end processes. When I'm stuck a good look around the help files usually sorts things out but I joined because I had a really head-scratching problem and it's nice to be surrounded by good advice!!

Hi Diana,
Welcome to VBAX
I thought I knew a lot too, when I came here, but the learning never stops. Answering questions streches you in areas you never knew existed, and it's surprising how often I find uses for these new subjects.

I thought I knew a few things and came here with some specific questions initially. Then I realized how little I really knew, and have been pretty much lurking ever since to continue learning.

I view Excel/VBA like my brain - I only tap a very small part of its full potential. Well, I could be maxing out my brainpower and not know it (here's hoping!), but I do have a pretty good grasp of how little I really know about VBA!
