Wanted to share this with everybody ...

Love this site. My home page at the fire house. They put out a new quiz every month ranging from vehicle extrication to EMS to strucutral fires to specialized rescue.. they have it all.
So, anyone care to take the test? :)

19/20. But that last one was due to a terminology difference. :p

Sadly, back when I lived with one of my buddies, he was going through his training for acceptance into the local volunteer fire department. I was privy to some info that a lot of people probably don't get (like the bumper thing). And still only 11/20.
We came to the conclusion that if a fire breaks out near my desk, we'll pass each other as I run out of the building. :rofl He hates the idea of being a desk jocky, and I can't fathom why anyone would want to play IN a firebox.
It is a really good thing, IMHO, that there are such differences in people! :yes

10/20 for me. A lot of unfamiliar terminology. I like the site though.

Hi Zack,
15/20 for me...used to be a volunteer firy many years ago, but guessing at terminology used doesn't help. My nxt-door neighbour is a full-time specialist "extrication and rescue" firy but I'm also guessing the US vs Oz terminology would probably beat him too if he tried it

8/20 I failed, and I burned my car down testing some of my mistaken theory's. "Where's the Never check for Fuel Tank leaks with a lighter" section II fire supression for Idiot's quiz?

Hey Zack -
Just thought I'd throw this one your way:
I spent about 3 years living in Moscow, Russia and I can't tell you how many burned-out vehicles line the roads in the winter. I asked some of my Russian employees, and they'd tell me about how people will try to thaw out their fuel lines with blow torches. Some of the available gas is really bad, sooooooooooooooo..............
Sounds like fun, heh???

FrankThey're not kidding either, saw a show on TV recently where a reporter went to Siberia, he has that on film!! (blow torching fuel lines to thaw out the fuel each morning) :bink:

Whew!
That reminds me about a structure fire we had where a guy was trying to thaw his lines (water) under his house with a blow torch.
I had a Paramedic in class who was born in Russia, boy did he have some stories.. I bet you do to.

Ah, yes, in northen Minnesota in the winter we had a 1939 MM tractor that was started with a handcrank. One year it was so cold that we had to put a barbeque pan under the engine to heat up the oil enough so that we could actually rotate the crank - took two hours of cranking (initially just trying to move it), and finally getting enough movement to actually snap it. But we finally got it going.
Ah, at that time what we would have given for headbolt heaters!!
