Yep... console game.

But when they upgraded XBox Live to just allow people to hang out in forums (don't even need a game to play) and chat in realtime it changed my perspective a bit. Worldwide realtime voicechat for $150 US, and the cost of a DSL connection. Not too bad really.

So I'm breaking down and getting an XBOX for my sons for Christmas. My oldest boy (almost 7) wants nothing else. I think he's going to be a Gamer.

My brother is getting one too. We want to do the online (Live!) thing. I think it would be pretty cool to play/chat in real time with my brother in NY!

So, who else here does the XBOX Live! thing? We know Aaron does. lol I'm more curious than anything on how prevalent this actually is. :dunno

Live XBOX chat sounds kind of neat, but no XBOX in my house... :no

And you want us to believe that he will be the primary gamer...?

uh-huh ;) :D

Well, no. But I'd have never gotten it just for me. And he will play it more, although I think I'll enjoy it more. :*)

A gift that keeps on giving. :) ;)

XBox live is probably the best for online gaming besides a PC of course. I haven't heard much good about PlayStation 2 online, and GameCube only has a couple games that can be played online.

I think you get a free couple months to a year when you buy the XBox Live kit, so check around before you buy for the best deal. Also you need a minimum of 128k upload so 56k connection won't cut it.

I hear it is pretty good. I am not into online games much myself, but for those that like it, the setup looks very nice.

Also note that if you were thinking about modding your XBox in any way be aware that you will not be allowed to play online. I lot of people got hosed a while back when Microsoft added some software that somehow checked for any hardware mods. Once you get kicked off, you can never play online with that XBox again, even if you restore the original hardware. Just an FYI since I know that nobody here would illegally modify their XBox. :*)

Of course not ... I mean, why would anybody want to put Linux on there, as opposed to Windows ..

..Or a bigger hard drive .. :dunno

..Or a faster DVD drive ..

If it did, Zack would install Firefox in about 2 seconds, I think! :D

Yeah, I use Firefox as well at home. Much better than IE.

Allright then guys... what do you like about it so much?

I installed it last Friday, and have come up with a couple of weird issues (Mr. Excel's profiles on the left of posts now expand way over their previous boundaries, for example), but I love the "Open in Tab" feature.

What else is there that I haven't found yet?

(Starting to look like this thread should be split! :D)

The primary reasons I like FireFox ...

(you gonna make me think here Ken .. ?!?! ;) )

1) Completely 100% Open Source
2) Tabbed Browsing
3) 0 - that's zero - popups
4) Increased Security and Privacy
5) Complete user control/customization
6) Downloading (I always know where my files are now!)
7) Great Developer Tools (muwahahaha!)
8) Quick Bookmark 'Button' setup
9) Integrated Google search bar w/o the messy addins.

I'm about to go with Thunderbird also. And for the record, there wouldn't even be 2 seconds before I whipped it on there! LOL!

I'm on CrazyBrowser, which gives IE tabbed browsing, no popups and a few other features.

Hello everyone :)

(Yes I know I've not been around for a while, lot of stuff going on, hope everyone is good!)

Departing slightly from the Firefox theme (I use it, and love it!), has anyone (Zack?) installed Thunderbird yet? Am currently using Outlook 2003 and contemplating making the switch... any pros/cons? Ok this has nothing to do with XBox... but..... u know :D

YES! The gift of not having to cook all the meals.
Now that's what true :beat is all about!

Just hearing that story... sniff... sniff... :bawl ...I'm touched.

I use Thunderbird and Firefox. Both are excellent considering that they were Free!

Like Zack, I like the various "plug-ins" you can get for Firefox. The developer tools are excellent if you are in to web design.

i am guessing i will figure out the rest once i download and install it. i tend to learn about programs by working my way through the verb bar one option at a time... lol

Open source means that when the developers coded FireFox, they also post the code they used on their website. It's like if Bill Gates took his code for Microsoft Windows/Office and published it on the internet. It's kind of a "we don't have a thing to hide, check for yourselves" type of attitude. It also means that you can tweak any way that you want, make your own permutations/versions etc. Very cool for developers and/or inquisitors! Quite honest and humbling if you ask me. :yes

The Developer Tools are a set of additional tools available to users of FireFox who like to customize things with their browser. It's like an Administrative tools for your browser. You can customize just about anything inlcuding CSS, converting form POSTs to GETs, outlining block level elements, disabling styles, hiding images, etc. Here are some useful links ...
