Change background colour when letter entered

I have a 7 column table in a Word form, which I am hoping to have a traffic lights system in the last column. i.e. when R is entered in a cell the background changes to Red, likewise when A & G are entered, background changes to Amber & Green.
I can do this quite easily in Excel, but there are severe problems in the amount of text that can be entered in a cell.

Word doen't really have that kind of facility although it could perhaps be arranged in a WindowSelectionChange Event by checking the value of the one cell and setting the appropriate colour in the other cell.

However, if someone has to enter a code anyway, it should be possible with an autotextlist and there may be other ways.
