Can someone help me please?

I want to download Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or later, but I can only download zip files cos of my security settings.

Can anyone point me to a site where I can do this - or otherwise do any of you have it?

Puleeeeze...

How about 7.0? I zipped it and will email it to you.

That would be great!

Hey, perhaps I can test my Gmail (damian.gardiner@gmail.com) out...

Cheers Jake

I edited your post to put your gmail addy behind a link there, dude. If you put your email address on an open forum, you're sure to start getting spam.

What? Spam Bots can't see through links? LOL

Anne Troy

I don't think so...

Hmmm... I was pretty sure that they could. I actually use a script on my own site to display my email link.

Just to be safe, I'd edit your post and break it up into something resembling:

myaddy at thedomain dot com

The spam bots won't put that back together.

And I know that the day they do, your email server (among others) is going to have some serious traffic issues!

Hey guys,

Ok, It's on the way to GMail.

Take CareJake, it never arrived... :(

Jacob Hilderbrand

Ok, I sent it again to the Gmail address you provided. If it isn't there in a few minutes send me an email from your Gmail account and I will reply with the file.

Thanks Jake,

Didn't arrive so I've sent to your vbax address from GMail.

Hmm. Looks like Gmail refused the attachment?? It's a zip file and only 500kB so I don't see the problem.

I sent it again to see if it might go through. Maybe there is a setting in Gmail as to what attachment files you allow?

Hey there,

FYI:

As a security measure to prevent potential viruses (http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8493), Gmail does not allow users to receive executable files (such as files ending in .exe) that could contain damaging executable code. Gmail does not accept these types of files, even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. Any message of this type sent to your Gmail account will be bounced back to the sender.

I don't know if this would work or not, but maybe Jake could change the extension of the file to something else... like *.crp

It may let it go through then, and you could just change it back...?:dunno

Just a thought.

Just out of interest how do you compress Acrobat 7 down to 500K?

Jacob Hilderbrand

It's the Reader, and I just found it at cnet.com and that was the size.

I'll send it again and change the extension, let me know if it works or not.

I think all you have there is the Adobe Download Manager - the Acrobat Reader is closer to 20M

Anne Troy

ok. I have increased your email account here at vbax to 30MB.

I have downloaded reader without the frills (19.8MB).

I have changed the file name to end in txt.

I have zipped the file.

I have emailed it to you here at vbax.

Great!

Now, let's see if it ever leaves my outbox...

I'm going to bed now!

Heck with that. Get it here: www.kwilters.com/AdbeRdr70_enu_full.zip (http://www.kwilters.com/AdbeRdr70_enu_full.zip)
But give it a few minutes to upload. Like 20.

Thanks everyone, but after all that - I get "The specified version requires a newer version of Windows"

Bummer - never mind! :( But I really do appreciate the effort everyone went to. :)

Anne Troy

Tell us what version...

It was for work - where we're still using NT 4.0. It was for a web site that says we need to install it to read their stuff.

I hate them.

Well, since the topic has been addressed here, I'm curious to know if the changing of the file extension worked (if anyone here has tried it).
Used to beat the Outlook security issues like that back in the day (using txt instead of exe); does it work for Gmail as well?

Scott

Hi Scott,

Yep, changing the file extension to .txt worked fine, because I was able to download it. And changing it (once downloaded) back to .exe was also good. Only my employers version of Windows (NT) wasn't the right one for that particular program. :(

Just to help,

even if you put your e-mail in a script it can be readen by spam bots. The only secure way (till now) is to put it as an image with trash in the background.

Hey Carlos,

Curious to know your opinion on this (http://forums.pcworld.co.nz/archive/index.php/t-17272.html). It's a javascript anti spam script...

Tamer!

Did you ever get a copy of Acrobat 6.0 reader? I do have a copy of it here which I could get to you if you want to try it.

Cheers,

Thanks again
