Just something I have noticed, but a few people on here refer to each other with their real first names, rather than their forum name.

I was wondering what is preferred by people, just in case one is considered more polite.

I like first names, if the other person is okay with that, and that is another nice thing about VBAX that we do.

I prefer first names myself. I feel like I know the person, I mean how would you respond to someone with a login of dragontooth.

I prefer first names, for the same reasons as Tommy. I don't know anyones first name so I tend not to use it.

My name is Gerry.

My rule of thumb for this is simple: is their name in their signature, or is their handle their real name?

If there name is in their sig, then, I think, that they can't object to my use of their real name. Also, if your handle is your name, then that just makes things easier.

This is the first forum where I started using my real name in my sig... mainly because of the level of professionalism I've encountered.

Real name should be used IRL =)

Forum name should be in the sig in forums....

I generally use the nickname. Mainly because not everyone uses their name in their sig. It's not a disrespect thing - I'm just too lazy to look in their profile to see if their real name is in there.

Besides, I would not want to be confused with Tommy (who is MUCH more advanced than I am).

Btw, my real name is Tom Tripp (hence my nickname - it has nothing to do with drugs)

I used my last name as a username. My name consists of two first names basically so I answer to either. Steve is fine or Lucas is fine.

I think it makes it a friendlier and more informal forum if we know each others names. It evolves over time.

Just catching up and found this thread :), i, like most of you frquesnt quiet a few forums and i have to say that this is the only forum that is capable of using first names, the community here is as none i have come across before, professional and friendly. I use my own name everywhere on the internet, i prefer the transparency.

Getting to use someone's first name that you hardly know is a privilidge and makes for a good working relationship.

Using real first names would be the most preferrable option. And it is a good thing to do in this friendly forum.

However, freedom to be on real name terms is kind of luxury a lot of people out there don't have. So never take it for granted.

Personally I think it's just down right nicer to go by somebody's name. I know some people who don't want to use their name in lieu of anonymity, and it's understandable, everyone has a choice.

Please don't use my name though, I'd hate for it to get out there in "cyber space".
