Hello

My office is about to migrate to Word 2007 from Word 2000. I have a menu item on the toolbar which stores about 20 macros which are in a global template. Can I recreate the same thing in Word 2007 and if so how? I don't have a full understanding of that Ribbon thing yet.:help

Your best bet in the short term is to copy the macros to a new template and create a toolbar for them, then put that template in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP when you upgrade. That way you can add a 'custom toolbars' item to the quick-access toolbar in Word 2007 and they'll still be available, although they won't be integrated into the ribbon.

This Technet article explains what happens to things like macros and toolbars when you upgrade to 2007:
Migration considerations for Word 2007 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179177%28TechNet.10%29.aspx)

Once you get your head around it the ribbon isn't that hard to customise, especially with the help of the Office 2007 Custom UI Editor (http://openxmldeveloper.org/articles/CustomUIeditor.aspx), although it's not as easy as the old toolbars.

If all that is too much work then you can try RibbonCustomizer (http://www.pschmid.net/office2007/ribboncustomizer/index.php).

I highly recommend that if these macros are used by a lot of people you get a single machine set up with Office 2007 first so you can get the migration working properly.
