If I code an excel spreadsheet to perform certain tasks can I legally sell it without issues? All of the coding would be totally original.

thanks in advance,

Harry

Yes you can sell it. You could just make it into an add-in and sell it, or sell the actual workbook.

As a project manager, I've learned:

password protect your code until it's paid for
whenever possible, make it a COM addin instead of a regular addin (XLA) or template (DOT). These can't be hacked or cracked
We'll sell it for you right here, if you like. See http://www.vbaexpress.com/products.php

(Jake, I think you put that other guy's thing on the wrong page.)

You need Visual Basic (the mother of VBA).

How can you assure it wont be redistributed and used? You know of any activation kinda stuf, like MS softs?

I simply didnt see any security feature over office, other than using external features like COM or DLL that could be called safe. Till now all I have seen are easily breakble. This is my doubt, is anything we could do thats secure?

Nothing is secure in MS Office, Paleo. NOTHING. Anything can be cracked. Want it cracked? Ask me. I'll find someone to do it for you. This is not an invitation for people to send me stuff they want cracked. If you do, you'd better have a darn good reason for wanting it cracked, and it better not belong to someone else.

:D

Yes, I totally agree with you. Thats why I am putting so many out of my coins in VSTO. This way we will have the ability to activate a workbook by a Web Service over the internet and eventually to disable it too. I am studying it and I think it may be the solution.

Cool. Keep us posted on that, please. :)

What's a "net" addon? And...maybe this link will help? http://www.romanpress.com/Articles/Addin_R/Addin.htm

You need VSTO in order to use VB.NET with Excel, which is a VS.NET addin. Read more at http://www.vbaexpress.com/forum/articles.php?action=viewarticle&artid=6
