Change view to merge codes like <<>> from merge results

When I 1st created a merged document I had merge fields similar like this:

<<Salutation>>

Now when I go into the document, I only see the merged results:

John

How can I change the view back to show the merge fields instead of the merged results in a document?

I already know about Alt F9, but it is a different format of the merge field than my original <<Salutation>>, etc

Hi mikeburg,

If Alt-F9 doesn't reveal the mergefields, then you're viewing the merged output, not the mailmerge main document. Are you sure you haven't saved the merged output over the mailmerge main document?

Yes, I think that is what happened. The Alt F9 works but in a different format. F9 also views links, etc, which I prefer not viewed.

Any other ideas how to change it back?

Well, if you've saved the merged output over the mailmerge main document (and you haven't got a backup - hint!!), the simplest approach would be to make a copy of a single record's merged output, save that to a new file and set the new file up as a mailmerge main document, replacing the existing merged results with the corresponding merge fields.
