Besides vbaexpress, what is a good resource for developing my understanding of VBA in Excel(2003)? I have purchased several books, but they fail to provide the detail that explains what each of the properties are and what its impact is. I think I'm looking for a cookbook.

You have the object browser in the VBIDE, MSDN, VBA Programmers Reference (2000, 2002 or 2007, most definitely not 2003). They should help get started.
