Files getting inexplicably bigger!

Hi all,

I look after a large number of files (usually about 3-5 mb each) which are email to and from me each month as they are updated. Lately I have a problem where for no apparent reason the files are doubling in size and I cannot work out how to shrink them back to normal. It's not all files and seems very random.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on and how to fix it? The files are version 97-2003 (although the version of Excel people have varies around the company).

I've seen that happen (even without any VBA) when there are extensive edits to one or more worksheets, or if someone get's carried away with applying formats to entire rows or columns. Somewhere along the line the WB/WS gets corrupted or confused. Switching from 2003 to 2007 probably does not help either.


Fastest thing I've found to put a workbook back on a diet is to copy / paste data, etc. into a brand new workbook.
