links to closed workbooks

Hi,

If you have links to workbooks that are not opened is there a way to updated the values without opening the source.

I keep getting #VALUE

I have tried to check the status of the link, update the source etc but it is only when I open the source workbook that the values update. Is this the only way?

Linked workbooks will eventually break your heart. They will fail you when you count on them most.

I avoid linked workbooks at all costs.

You have discovered just one minor drawback to linked files.
