Is it possible to add custom synonyms to words?

Hi All!
If we can add our custom words in our custom dictionaries. Why can't we add our custom synonmys. Possible? I tried manually but no avail. How about programatically? It is better if someone explains why not if we can't. I am curious to know how the system works. Thank you.

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be any documented way to do this as an end user or method exposed via VBA.
Given there are multi-language thesauri supported though it might be possible somehow to take advantage of this feature.


One possible solution might be to write some vba to intercept or mimic the proofing tools or add a new custom menu item that utilises your custom thesaurus.

From what I can deduce what you are seeking to do is possible (you can create custom thesaurus files - XML files) if you are using SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or SharePoint Server 2007 which suggests Microsoft are at least open to the idea.
