Solved: no nvaigation pane and menu

I am using MS Access 2007. I have done the following: from Access button--> Access Options-->current database then in the navaigation pane unchecked "display navigation pane"
and under toolbar options I have unchecked
Allow full menus
Allow default shortcut menus

as a result I am unable to modify it.
How do I modify it? I have tried left shift clicking and double clicked access icon to open it but this did not work.

Close the database. Now Hold down the shift key while you click on the icon to open the database- wait for it to completely open- you'll know when because the navigation pane will reappear.
