Linking ppt presentations, so I only have to edit once

I have a myriad of PowerPoint (2003) presentations I use for a variety of different occasions; however, there is a core of basic slides that exists in all of the presentations (background information, contact info...). I was interested in linking these presentations or creating a database to hold these slides, with the premise being that when they need updating, I would only need to update a slide once and it would promulgate to the other presentations where it exists. Any advice in doing this would be helpful.

I don't have 2003 anymore, but I think it has a custom slide show capability that allows you create multiple versions of a slide show from a single presentation by picking which slide to include
