I posted this on Ozgrid, but thought I would inform my friends (all three of you ;) ) here as well.

Friday afternoon our boss gathered us all outside my cube and said, "All of you get your resumes to me by Monday". Because of the corporate environment we are merging with another, and everyone has to reapply for the same job we are doing now, which means a 50% chance of "look for another job - and don't let the door hit you on the way out".

Not good Friday news!

Damn man, thats sucks big time. Corporates can be a load of bollocks - to quote the english vernacular.

Hope all goes well.

I think it's just the way corporates do things... I've had to re-apply for my own job three times in four years (twice with interviews and the most recent with a presentation on "improving communication channels", like I give a *!$@!).
If it weren't for the occasional "re-structure", people would realise 50% of management didn't actually have anything else to do...

According to (rumor) estimates, 40% of upper management will be eliminated within the next two months.

Wow, Rich, good luck there. Are you in the Upper Management area? How long have you been there?

I was once laid off from a job I had for less than a year, and found it just astounding. No notice, just one day... "we can't afford you anymore. Cya!" For my sake it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me, but it sure didn't feel that way at the time.

I hope it works out well for you and you get to keep the job (if you want it) or get the golden handhake (if you prefer it that way.)

Cheers!

That really sucks man, good luck. I haven't had to re-apply for my job, though that did happen to three of my co-workers a few years back. They went from 3 to 2 operations managers. I did have my position eliminated once which was a real bummer.

Fresh out of college, I had two consecutive positions that were temp to hire positions. All was going along as planned until "the merger" happened and only "full time" employees of either company were considered for positions. That really stunk.

As I said over at Oz, good luck and my thoughts are with you Rich.
