Consecutive number across multiple documents

Hi,

I am sure this has been covered before but I can't find it. Sorry if we are going over old ground.

I have multiple documents which I would like to number consecutively. The documents names are as follows:

01 - Front Sheet.doc
04 - Bill.doc
08 - Schedules.doc
09 - Certificates.doc
10 - Back Sheet.doc

Page 1 will be in 01 - Front Sheet.doc and then go from there.

I would like to be able to have this work across multiple instances of these documents so I can add consecutive numbering to documents of these names every time they are created (they will have different numbers each time). I have seen a method with a Table of Contents document but I am unsure how I go about it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi George,

Your problem description is ambiguous.

Do you want to:
a) assign numbers to the documents' names; or
b) have each document in the collection to have consecutive page numbering?
