I guess this is Off topic in some respects, but I am trying to get a COM Port change done so I can start email on a PC, and then integrate office functions.

Currently I Have a need to change the COM port assignment under Windows ME ( Not my choice, but the PC we Had in its place was stolen by a jerk burglar ... who by the way has been caught, and is going up the "river" for 20 plus years)... anyway, the Modem on it needs COM Port 1, but is for some insane reason is going to COM 5...

If you know the Command Line to re-assign COM Ports unde ME, or if you know of a utility, I would appreciate it greatly.

We may need a "miscellaneous" forum, Santeria. I really don't expect our *regulars* to go find some other forum for their *normal* questions...

For now, I've moved this into Off-topic discussions...

Hey Santeria,

I don't know any Command line, but you could navigate to the settings manually and change it. Don't have ME, never have, but in XP/2000 go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device Manager -> Modems (expand). Right-click modem in question, click Properties.

In the pop-up click Advanced -> Advanced Port Settings -> Com Port Number (change). Should range from COM1 to COM256. If it's in use, you may have to re-assign.
