Import/Export command not working

I backed up my inbox-sent items- and deleted items, but now when I go to import them back into outlook I get the following error... please help...

Try to copy the file to your local C drive and maybe it will work. If that doesn't, you can try a detect and repair on Office. Also make sure that the import file type you specify is correct for this file.

I have tried doing it directly from the c: drive but same thing, but I can open the files in excel just fine
