Today we are reminded of the risks that people in the emergency services take with their own lives every day.

Some of the contributors to this site are amongst those numbers.

Hats off to you all.

My hat is off to those Police, Fire and EMS folks over there still working on this disaster. It's a tragedy and atrocious; but yet life can be at times. I pray for those who have passed away and those casualties and everyone who has been affected. God bless you all. Yes, our thoughts are with all of those affected by this latest atrocity by these callous criminals masquerading as religious zealots.

Yep, this is really ugly.

Bloody pricks.

I was in London last week travlling through the tibe system so while this is nothing abnormal in itself, it brings it home just that little bit more

It was a relief to hear that my colleagues and their families in London are all safe.

Along with all of the emergency service folks, passers by and Regular Joes...a big 'Good Show!' is in order for all of the transit system employees & members who - at risk to their own well being - put the passengers ahead of themselves and assisted riders to safety!

A day in the life of a Londoner...

A very strange day indeed. By chance, I took an overland train into Liverpool Street station instead of the tube so I didn't get trapped underground. The station was being locked down just as I arrived and the as the morning went on, the news came through of the continuing atrocities.

Londoners have the greatest respect for their emergency services, who have a long and impressive history of dealing with major incidents, and once again those who put their lives on the line to protect and aid others performed above and beyond. Like true professionals, these services had combined with the transit and city authorities in the time since 9/11 to develop the techniques and resources required to respond to events like this (and worse) and as the day progressed, it was clear how valuable the work and dedication they had invested "before the storm" was. I consider myself lucky and priviledged to have these people protecting my safety and supporting my city.

You know... I never posted in this thread before, simply because I was too angry... Sadly, it looks like we need to revive it again.

The breaking news is still on CNN about today's events, and the Police are holding their news conference right now. From everything I picked up, it looks like today's rounds are the work of a group of dumb fools who were not suicide bombers, and strikes me more like an opportunist.

All of my extended family lives in England, with one branch near London. They fortunately rode the transit the day before the last bombings, and were supposed to go in the next day, but decided against it. Unfortunately, as we know, there were many others who were not that lucky. :(

I am so disgusted with these people. They make me angry, not afraid. :motz2:

I have never figured out how anyone can believe in any deity who supposedly advocates taking a human life. It simply astounds me.

It remains to be seen what the true motivation for these attacks are today, but if it is what I've been led to believe so far... simple terrorists just mad at anybody... well that I understand even less... if that's possible.

I am quite frankly shocked and disgusted with these people, and yet amazed by humanity at the same time. London will pick up and carry on. Forgetting? I hope not. Defying the terrorists, I pray so. And best of luck to all of them in doing so.

I do not know how long it will be before it hits our country, as I am sure it will, but hopefully we are as resilient as dealing with it as Londoners have proved to be in the past. (No I have not forgot about 9/11, and there is resilience there as well, but London has been dealing with terrorism far longer than any of us.)

At first it was reported that these guys had just tried to scare by setting detonators off. But as events moved on, it now appears that these were would-be suicide bombers whose devices did not go off properly. The bombs found were the same size as those used on July 7.

These people apparently think they're buying their way into heaven by taking part in a "holy" war. It's a shame. (Matt 26:51)

Edit: And it's getting worse:
