How do you use CLNG function to extract a value from a list?

Hi experts, I would like to Use the CLNG and RIGHT functions toextract the last value from a list of years (http://www.wiseowl.co.uk/training/exercises/ex-1023.htm). Is it possible to do this? If so, is there a way I can approach this? Do you have any examples, websites, articles, books or pesonal experices how I can do this?
