Thanks. I wonder what's happening at the site.

I thought it was just my stoopid machine... but its not, which is good.

The site's still down from here too though - which is bad... I'll keep checking...

Damn. I'll need to email Jon and find out what the hell's going on. Two days now; I'm missing it. :(

I could get on at 06:30 yesterday morning. By 09:00 I couldn't get on at all.

How weird... it was fine for me most of the afternoon yesterday - although I remember thinking it was a bit quieter than usual!

Hmmm. Hope it's something simple to fix, I've only recently discovered that site but it's already amongst my favourite "pass the time" sites! :giggle

Of all the forums I'm a member of, it's the one in which I'm most active (Mile-O-Phile). Because I can't get in I've actually got to sit here and do work

Well we could always resurrect the longest thread ever in here too.... lol

I've actually managed to escape doing much work at all so far today. I keep telling my boss I need more stuff to do. She told me a week ago to do some tutorials for the staff in access and powerpoint. I finished them yesterday. She's on holiday this week.

Short of creating something from scratch I'm busy freshening the design of some of the reports we issue...

...I'm so bored - and can't access the arcade from here! :bore

What about the arcade on this site (http://www.simaqianstudio.com/forum/index.php?) if you want to pass the time. It's relatively new so the scores ain't too high (i.e. a chance of holding a high score for a bit) :)

I've sent Jon an email asking about the site but, as I can't remember his direct email address I had to use his access-programmer.co.uk mail. I suspect, though, that it won't get through due to the whole site seemingly being offline. :(

Cool... thanks for the link... not seen that Simon thing for AGES... wow... cool! :D that's definitely brought back my youth, I used to have one of those when I was a kid.

Now if only this darn computer had sound I'd be well away. Ahh well.

Just don't go breaking my score. I worked hard for that.

I bet... Ok... I'll try to get somewhere close to your tetris one then (chances are between slim and none!)

OT: Interesting program on BBC Four last night about that game, actually...

I tried it again, the link on the first post http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums
and it came right up. Maybe delete all your cookies, I dunno.

What thread?

Jacob Hilderbrand

This thread. I locked it because I thought the issue was solved. Since you are an admin you could still post. Btw I can still get into the site :) Maybe you guys got banned for being bad :rofl

SJ McAbney

You can't just go around banning the mod. :D Who'll keep order on it?

Adaytay

<~~ worries if he's really been banned for only making four posts since he joined...

:p :D :mkay  :help :type

Still down... Any word from Jon yet?

Nope. I doubt the email got to him. The email was to the same domain as the site.

I can get on fine at work with our DSL/Cable line or whatever it is (10Mbps). At home with my 56k I cannot. Maybe the page is timing out too fast?

Adaytay
07-08-2004, 01:03 AM
Hmmm - interesting - we've got a new higher-speed connection in - not sure exactly how fast but certain up with standard DSL speeds - but nothing. I might keep hitting F5 and seeing if I can catch it that way.

It's weird, because the first time I try to access it I get the "Action Cancelled" error... every time after I hit F5, I get the "Cannot find server" error.

Like I said yesterday - it was fine Tuesday for me though!

I've just actually done a WHOIS search on Nominet... the results can be viewed here (http://195.66.240.211/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=access-programmers.co.uk)...

Hmmm...

Interesting. Another user got a notification to a thread he's subscribed to that someone had replied to it. He couldn't get to the forum though to view it.

So it seems to work for some people but not others... I don't understand much about the way the internet works but if a site is up, it's up - right? Everyone (unless blocked by proxy / internet settings) should be able to access it?

Seems strange to me - I was able to get there quickly.
Did you try searching it and then hitting a link from the search? Maybe they changed DNS or something weird like that and your favorites link just isn't good anymore? Delete cookies and all that bit first?
Just an idea (I have had similar trouble getting to some sites in the past and getting rid of cookies and saving a new Favs link did the trick)

Scott

**ADDED**: this will take you to a Microsoft page which has a good link. :dunno

Tried that; doesn't work. Now I have to remember my password(s) for umpteen million sites. :(

# @ !#% :writer: ( <-we see Abulafia writing a list of log-ins and passwords to slide under the keyboard for future use...)

Sorry. I cannot understand (unless blocked) why you wouldn't be able to log in. Even if banned for some reason it seems likely that someone would have emailed to inform you '?'

I'm the moderator on that site so I'd find it hard to get banned. I'm getting loads of PMs from other people (AWF Orphans) on a variety of different Access sites - including this one - asking what's wrong.

The only other thought that crosses my mind on this topic is...
About 2 years ago we could not get to our own site. No matter what we did we could not get there but other people (elsewhere in the world) could. Even pings were timing out - no packets delivered.
Then we found out that the 'only' connecting line - between us and the server where our web was hosted - had been damaged. Two days later we were able to log on.

Another unexplained 'Web-ocity' in our midst.
