We have inserted hi res images into Word as tiff, eps & jpg files all with the same result. When they print they are pixelated and look horrible. When we print them out of regular graphic programs like Indesign or Illustrator they are fine. These images are for creating several letterhead templates with pictures of each person on their own letterhead. Is there something I am missing in this to get a better quality printing of the letterhead? It doesn't matter what kind of printer we print to the outcome is the same. I have been inserting the images into the header and footer of the letterhead. But even inserting them into the body produces the same result.

Thank you for any help,

Gary

PS I have tried this in Word 2000 and Word 2010

In Word under File>Options>Advanced try checking the box for Do not compress images in file and set the default target output to the maximum of 220 ppi.

I think however that it is probably an issue with the Printer\Printer Driver setup.

If you use the Save & Send>Create PDF\XPS facility, what is the quality of the pdf that is created.

Install the free PrimoPDF utility that will be added as a Printer and use that to print the document. Here either of the above methods give excellent results with the sample pictures that come with Windows. What result do you get when printing a document that contains one of those images?

It that's OK, then the issue is with the quality of the pictures that you are using.

Also, if you embed an eps file into a Word document with a postscript printer attached, the printout quality is independent of the image quality displayed in the document. Without a postscript printer, only the 'proof' image displayed in the document gets printed.
