I find that more and more everyone is useing excel 2007 or later 2010 2013( I am still happy with 2003) However I know I must move with the times .Qustion is which version and will I be better of upgrading too?

Whatever you do, give 2007 a miss, it is barely more than a beta test version .
Personally, I still like 2010, and my clients all use it. 2013 has some real extras, but it has licensing implications, so beware if you want to go that route.

Yea, it seems scary, but it's not to bad. You get use to it and "find" all the controls (they are still there but grouped which is nice) and you'll have to go sometime. So jump in bud, not to bad once your wet. :)

I've stuck with 2010 and am happy with it, reluctant to move to 2013 because of licensing implications, like Xld mentioned. That and I'm a bit stubborn.

i'd say 2013 is the best so far
I am using Office XP with the Compatibility Pack on Win XP and still keeping up with everyone here.
To me, a better question is, "How old are the hard drives in the current machine?" Because mine are from the late 1990's, I am currently building a new WinXP computer with a Solid State C:\ drive and some new Terabyte SATA drives.
I am thinking of setting up a 2010 machine just so I can learn the Ribbon and the new versions of Office, but that will be just for VBAExpress. I would be using the old hardware in this machine since it would only be for consulting work.
I suggest investing in an external SATA drive, downloading Microsoft's TweakUI, and changing all the Special Folders to the external drive so that when your current machine fails, you can install the external drive into the new computer with no loss of data. I have already done this in preparation for building my new XP box.

I think that all software must be updated to the latest version as, in general, all updates are made to optimize the software to make it more convenient to use it on any platform. I update all software, drivers, and I use optimizers to boost up the performance of my system and clean it from junk and outdated files.
