We had some pretty serious weather here tonight, and the power went out for a bit. I wasn't home yet, and I didn't think to ask my wife to shut down the three PCs that were running. Two survived, but the one with the most expensive power supply is down. Why won't Murphy get off my back? ;)

He's training them for the international computer athletics competition. He's sure his top machine can take first in the "My UPS failed and so did I".

Turns out that it was the power supply after all. So, $100 later, the thing is working again. Maybe I'll take Ken's advice and try a UPS again. My last one died.

Bob, no not the effects of Rita, but some record warm temps clashed with a cold front. My house is in a slight valley, so I didn't suffer any damage myself, but around the block several houses lost trees that were nearly a meter in diameter. In fact, approximately 10 homes in my suburb were damaged so much that they're now uninhabitable. Uffda! The suburb northwest of me was even worse off. I guess it's time to move back home to the Texas Gulf Coast. Doh!

I think we Dutchmen are famous for our Watermanagement cause we had to deal with it so much in the past.

So our country is always working on securing our water ways....:yes

Hey Joost,

Powerchute is a piece of software that shuts down your PC when the UPS battery runs low. Good thing to have going if you leave your PC on all the time.

The UPS I use cost me about $150 (Cdn), and came with the software. I look at it as cheap insurance. :yes

Hmmzz yes that sounds pretty cheap for the UPS...over here they cost about 500 euro's so that's a major difference.

I'll look in the powerchute thingie cause it sounds like it can save my PC...and yes they run all the time.

Thanx buddy. :hi:
