Sure they are - in "Alabama". Isn't that just a typical lam euphemism. "Alabama" indeed. They're running scared. I bet just after you phoned, they left instead of wating for the appointed hour because his wife let the jig up. ;) :P

Hopefully everything works out for him. It's a frightening thing to think that two hurricanes can deal such a blow to the southern US.

I feel greatly for the people that this will affect, over the next few days, and can't even begin to imagine how some of the Louisianna folks are faring... evacuated to Houston, then from Houston... :(

Yes, good luck to you and yours Tommy. :thumb

I'm in the hurricane belt down here (but we call them "Cyclones" instead).

Interestingly, I came to Townsville 30 odd years ago and my 1st year here I found the winter weather absolutely glorious. The next year we got hit by cyclone Althea (a high Category 3, almost a 4) on christmas eve that almost destroyed the city. That year we had christmas dinner courtesy of the Salvation Army and my family had to be re-located till everything was re-built. Then a year or two later (to the day) Darwin was hit by a category 4.

Since then we haven't been hit by another large one and winters have been different but I've noticed the weather this last winter was almost identical to my 1st winter here, so maybe it's time again here as well (these things do come in cycles)... really looking forward to christmas now to see what we get for a present

Regards,
John :)

WOW, left at 4:30 am for Alabama got 50 miles in 12 hours. Got caught up in the gridlock. Found out evacuating a couple million people at once doesn't work http://vbaexpress.com/forum/images/smilies/doh.gif . At least not this time. I turned around and rode it out, better than getting caught in it on the road. We were without power for 3 days, I have generaters so fridge and freezer are ok. A lot of trees down but everything else is getting back to normal. http://vbaexpress.com/forum/images/smilies/cloud9.gif All pc's are safe they were on the drafting table and unplugged, the main one I took with me, my wife tollerates her computer nerd http://vbaexpress.com/forum/images/smilies/045.gif .

Steve my wife forgot you called, but yes that was her.

LOL Traffic jams, we were walking dogs and had to wait for the vehicles to catch up!! I saw a few had stopped and set up the BBQ pits for lunch. All in all it really wasn't too bad, more scary than anything else. Scared of running out of gas, no water and can't get any, no food, you take things to eat and drink  but I don't think anyone planned for what happened, or the extended period for "driving". I have heard some people drove for 24-36 hrs for a normal 2-3 hr drive. We burned up 2 batteries, still trying to figure that one out :dunno . The temp was 98, index at 106+, no wind, no AC, just box fans with cold beer :) (generators keep the fridge going and that is where the beer is um was)
