It's about $2.95/gal in N. California.Holy Moly!! And that's in US dollars. In Oz ppl are complaining becoz it's gone up to around $1.40 -$1.50 (and that's in Oz dollars!) :)
EDIT: Oops sorry, just re-read that, we pay that for a litre (something like 4 litres to the gallon I think)

Yeah a gallon is 3.7854 liters.
So you would be $5.29 a gallon here. i think.

Yeah, which is a little more than Southeastern Canada right now.
On another note, Oregon is reporting between $2.85 and $3.50 / gallon, sitting at $3.09 where I'm at.

As usual we in Germany can top this: 1,40 (Euro per liter) = 6,32875428 U.S. dollar per US gallon.

It varies here from $2.76 - $3.05 USD per US Gallon. It will vary as much as $0.05 in a block, so I shop around use about a gallon of gas to find a place to save $0.03 per gallon. So what this means is I use a gallon ($2.89) to save $0.50.

A gallon is not the same everywhere so one needs to be careful with comparisons.
UK price per litre is about ?0.95 at present - around $1.70 at current exchange rates.

This may be a little controversial but I think the rise is great
Market forces are pushing people into public transport - if this is sustained then this will have a much bigger impact on the environment than any environmental awareness campaign.
Sales of petrol guzzling 4 wheel drives (SUV in the US) have already declined in OZ. Another tick
And less politically correctly, the people with the worst vehicles will generally be under the most financial pressure to use these cars less.
But as I work for the biggest resource company in the world, and drive a 4WD under lease (ie half my petrol is deductible) I completely understand if my position above doesn't gell well here.

I gotta disagree with you a bit here Dave. I ride a pushbike or catch buses anyway, but there are lotsa ppl where you could say a car is an essential e.g. families, and, esp in Oz, there's plenty places outside cities where public transport is not an option and they may simply be unable to afford to trade down to a smaller vehicle.
But what gets even me is that the price of living will increase due to the rise e.g. milk in Qld just went up abou 10% due to it...
Regards,
John :)

milk up 10% - sounds like price gouging
thats as bad as the airlines passing on the input cost of fuel as a "surcharge" to customers.

Public transportation is not offered where I live, just where I work. My wife and I (we work at the same place) drive 30 miles one way. Public transportation is available starting 1 block from the office.
Airlines are not the only ones with the fuel surcharge, here it even shows up at the fast food places as a separate item on the receipt. It is so high on freight that it sometimes means the difference between getting a sale or not.

Much the same here as Tony, which converts to 6.46 USD per US gallon. Visit the Hebrides though, and it could be 10% more.

Down here in Brazil it costs US$ 4.22 a gallon. Of course we buy it by liters but I did the math already, :D.

I think its time again to drive to the nearest German or Belgium pump cause over here a liter of euro unleaded costs: 1,59 (Euro per liter)
And I'm not happy to say...I can TOP that! :(
