View Full Version : How to change size of internal cache in Word/Office using a macro

Hi Guys,

I have a number of large Word documents (300-600 pages / 10-35 Mb) that are now slow to navigate in and edit.
Many spinning beach balls during an editing session.

I suspect these documents may be exceeding Word's internal cache size, resulting in this slow-down.

Can a VB macro be written to find out the current size of the internal cache; and, if so, can it be increased with a macro ?

I've seen instructions for increasing the size of the internal cache on a PC (it's a key in the Registry), but nothing for the Mac.

I've also looked at my ~/Library .plist preferences files and I don't see a likely key there either.

I am on OSX 10.4.11 running Word 11.5 (Office 2004). I also have not exceeded the available RAM on this machine, but half
generally half the available RAM free when these beach balls occur.

Any tips of other ideas about what might be causing the slow-down and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
