Does anyone know how to (in excel) access the maths symbols available in equation editor?

e.g. how do I display the integral symbol in a worksheet cell?

TIA,
John :)

I think Equation does its own thing, not necessarily using standard symbols.

I just checked under Insert > Symbol and in the (normal text) miscellaneous technical subset I found the top and bottom halves of the integral symbol - I'm not sure how much use they are, mind.

Hi John,
Not sure about the equation editor, but for the integral symbol
Insert/Symbol Character 222b

Actually, thinking about it, do you really need it in a cell? Why can't you just use the equation editor?

Hi Tony, Malcolm,

i) Tony, I cant find the 'Insert' symbol (office 2000)
ii) Malcolm, that will do to get me started, thanx
iii) Tony, I may have to play around with that as well (Insert | Object | Microsoft Equation 3.0)

I was going to look at a procedure to differentiate and integrate equations (algebraic type - non-numeric solutions) and was hoping I could just display it in a cell followed by the expression to be differentiated/integrated.

Much thanx,
John :)

If it's any help, the integral is unicode 222B. I can insert it into a cell from OS X's character palette, but I can't find a way of doing it from within Excel.

Isn't it odd how you get used to things and forget you never used to have them? Little by little, improvements get added - Insert > Symbol is available in Excel 2003 (not sure about XP) but, as you say, not in 2000.

Ok, thanx muchly guys.

Just getting the right symbols where they're needed to be is going to be a real pain so it looks like I'll just have to give this idea a miss (for now anyway). :dunno

Nope, only available in 2003. For below versions, you could use something like this ...

In fact, that's why I coded it. LOL!

I have a font named "Symbol" that seems to have all the math symbols. I've always had the font, so I assumed that it came with Windows.
