I just upgraded to Office 365 yesterday and am not able to open a specific macro enabled file that has been running fine for many years using Excel 2007, 2010 and 2013. It is a very robust stand alone application, but as I said it runs fine in all other versions except 365.

When I open the file it hangs on the opening screen. I am not able to access the VB Editor to debug. All my other macro enabled files are opening and functioning properly.

I also received multiple calls from other users of the same file who have been using the program previously with 365, but are now experiencing the same problem. The file tries to open and simply spins. I am guessing therefore that a recent security update may have caused this problem.

Microsoft support, needless to say, has been totally useless.

Thanks for your consideration.

Try holding shift and right click with mouse to open your file in only read mode or protected view.
Are you sure the file isn't blocked for some reason ? Right click on file, properties and look if file is blocked from opening -> mark it as trusted than.

Without the file, it's hard to figure out what's wrong.
