Solved: Center Across Selection...How Does It Work??

I started experimenting with the Center Across Selection style, and I get unexpected results. First I type "abc" into a cell. Next I select that cell and the one to the right of it with my cursor. Then I go to the Format dialog box and select Center Across Selection. And ... Voila! ... the "abc" disappears! That doesn't actually accomplish what I want.
What am I missing? :bug:

Reset. I just tried it again in a different place, and it works just fine. Sorry.
