Hey folks,

Thought I'd let you know that Microsoft have now released the Network Installation version of this VITAL service pack. Basically if you are running WindowsXP, you NEED TO INSTALL THIS!

The file is some 266MB to download - but it is the complete installation; the "custom" version that will vary in size according to your needs will shortly be available.

For more information on the new features, and to download the english version direct from MS, please visit my forum (http://forum.adaytay.com). You can also view when the CD will be available for free delivery (to save you the massive download!). I've also got a link to the order page too...

I can also provide information on how to slipstream the service pack onto your existing WinXP Installation CD, meaning any future installations will be automatically up to SP2 level. (not endorsed by MS in any way!). For more details please visit my website.

Cheers,

PS. As far as I am aware the only versions available to download at this time are the English and German versions...

Although IBM is telling its 400,000 employees to NOT update:

IBM tells employees not to install Windows XP update (http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/08/09/HNdontinstallxp_1.html)

Yes I read a similar article...

IBM's technology department said the delay is "due to known application problems and incompatibility with IBM workstation applications"

But heck if the majority of PCs actually GET FASTER after installing this update then that's a good thing, right?

As I read on another site, MS must have remembered to include the placebo on this one :rofl

...although this article (http://www.internetnews.com/security/article.php/3390031) doesn't inspire confidence really....

I?ll wait until MS has released the "SP-1" for SP-2 for Windows XP. Too much new stuff in the SP-2 makes me more restrictive then usual.

Kind regards,
Dennis

I'll chime in on this one. Any XP user should consider XP SP2 as it will help mitigate many of the security lapses often found on these systems. With that said, everyone should also carefully test SP2 and understand exactly what changes occur.

As an SP2 beta tester for a while now, I can attest that it is extremely stable and has been through the ringer. I can't say I notice a performance improvement, but I don't see any degradation either. Just the same performance as before SP2.

I wouldn't let the articles scare you. Large companies need to test more carefully the impact this SP will have on its users and applications. These companies are dealing with thousands of applications, internal firewalls, standardized Anti-virus, etc. For the home/small-office user, SP2 should be no problem.

If anyone has a specific question or concern, I will be happy to try and address it.
