Duplicating Databases (ADVICE)

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice as to why shared network databases sometimes duplicate them selves, usually smaller in size?

I thought it might be the automatic compact when it was closed so turned that off but it still happens occasionally.

The actual database is ACCDB ext and the duplicates are MDB

The databases are very basic, all the same but for different areas and max size is less than 2GB.

Sorry, no idea, I have never heard of it before.
The format change may be a clue, but I can't see how it could happen without it being programmed in.
