Went to see this film last night, and it was fantastic. Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant, his singing was good, and he even looked the part. Reese Witherspoon, normally my least favourite actress (actually, Drew Barrymore wins that title), was a revelation to me, she was good, and her role was much more than just the female interest, she was central.

Ok, it is not an autobiography, it doesn't cover the full depth of the man, the warmth of the human being, the deep faith he had, the ambiguous relationship with Nashville considering he is probably the first person many people think of when they think of country music. It really only skims his personal demons, making an easy target of the father, but it is great entertainment, and it is worthwhile.

Anyone who says they are serious about music, even if they don't think JC is important, should watch the film, it only skims the reality of 50s Sun, but still fun.

Looking forward to the follow-up, when they cover the period from his re-birth when he joined up with Rick Rubin!

Thanks. I haven't seen it yet, but may soon.

I grew up during those years, and still have many of the original Sun Record 45's. Having witnessed that period it is sometimes hard to take in a movie when the expectation is that the movie reflects my own memories of the same events. But as long as I am aware of that issue, it should be alright.

Thanks xld. I'd been wondering about this film. I don't know many people who saw it, so some good insight from a keen mind is always good. :yes

Rick Rubin? Seriously?

Rick Rubin? Seriously?

Absolutely! The American Recordings from about 1990, four albums, were all produced by Rick Rubin. One of the unlikelier pairings I thinkhttp://vbaexpress.com/forum/images/smilies/001.gif
