Our two illustrious lads Jake & Zack have come to the conclusion that the rainy season is coming to an end, and they need to start ordering in supplies. To fill in time, Jake has been locked in an epic battle with himself in a chess game. The Black King has no where to go safely, but Jake knows, if he calls Checkmate its game over, and any win here is also a loss to himself so he's in a quandary. There's probably a VBA method to sort this out. Zack on the other hand, who doesn't mind a challenge, has entered into a wrestling match with the local hero.... Razor. The "Ring" is nothing more than a 10 metre square hole in the ground, where the mud varies from soupy to sticky and varies in depth. Waist high was the last estimate, but only Razor knows for sure. Zack, who knows a thing or two about fires, was heard to claim "Contest starts at 9am, by 12.30 Razor will be nothing but crackled roast pork...". Seems he doesn't know about Razor's background The Hog Whisperer - poem by Murray Hartin. Maybe this will draw our two Admins out of hibernation.

Update #1

Zack's been moved from ICU and is in the Recovery ward at the local hospital. He is grateful for the 18 cards (17 from his mum and one from Pascal),received from the VBA folks out there. They should make a movie out of the fight contest. There was Razor, in his normal position in the middle of the ring, when music ( yep you guessed it "Eye of the Tiger"),started playing. Enter stage left, came Zack, dressed somewhat flamboyantly in pink fluffy slippers, but from the waist up covered in a thick coat of mud. He figured that if he looked like mud, ol' Razor wouldn't find him until it was too late..... Terrific idea there Zack. George, who volunteered for the job as referee, checked the gloves, spoke of the rules of play, and instructed both combatants to come out swinging when the bell was rung.

Bell rings, and it on. Zack plows his way out towards the middle, leaving this huge wake behind him (which unsurprisingly did not fill in, for the mud was indeed sticky in the midday sun). With a wild rebel yell the two met in a flurry of skin, hair, and dust a'flyin... (Well blobs of mud more accurately speaking).

The on duty captain for the Rural Fire brigade ( who else but Jake) realised that Zack would be tiring, after this opening salvo, decided to spray the mud pit to make it easier for his best mate to get around. The nozzle however was set to stream rather than spray and as was later defined in the Senate estimates hearing, the principle cause for Zack's defeat. Once Zack's disguise was washed off, Razor set upon him like a beggar on a $100 note. Suffice to say that by the time the bell rang for the end of round 1, Zack was decidedly looking a little worst for wear. 3 fingers off the right hand, 2 ribs broken, a missing left knee cap and blood oozing from a gash on the part in the hair. The ring doctor Dr. Phillips ( Bob to his mates) wisely decided to call the match off, and Zack was whipped away to the local vet for urgent surgery. To his credit he was heard to say..."tis just a flesh wound".

Again not so surprisingly, it took a week of sifting through the mud pit to find the missing body parts, which were duly washed down with alcohol (Supplied by Pascal), and sent to the major hospital for emergency treatment. Working miracles, the medical staff were able to patch young Zack up and put him in ICU.

So, for those of you who have been wondering why Zack hasn't been online for a while, well now you know. Please feel free to email him zbarresse@dataautopros.com and wish him a speedy recovery.

Update #2. Zack's out of hospital and is at home recovering well. Still on crutches ( and could well be for a while -since the "honey do" list has grown to over 14 foolscap pages). Jake is still in hiding it seems. Pascal has suggested that he should assist in paying off Zack's credit at the pub, since the local gossip is that he caused the loss. Other than that all is well in Walkabout Creek Services.
