Good day All,

I installed Office 2019 after having Office 2007 for years. Mainly to be able to access later Access databases, as 2007 would not open later DBs.

However I found that I was no longer able to put my own buttons on the ribbon for my own macros, which I could not do without.

I posted in several forums about this, and did not get one response, so took it as could no longer be done.

So I reverted back to 2007 and all appeared to be working fine, except I have discovered my auto correct options are not working.

Now the strange this is that the options are pretty much disabled, yet I have just found out that if I type in about, Outlook will auto correct that, but I generally just use it for the smiles :-) and :-(

Does anyone know how I can get these back please? At first I thought all auto correct was disabled as those characters are all I pretty much use, but seeing that about, I thought I would test that, and that gets correct, just not the smilies.

I am assuming it is down to having 2019 Outlook still on the laptop.
They work in 2019 Outlook, so I am wondering if that is interfering in some way with 2007?

Does anyone have a workaround please?

G'day Gasman,

Sorry to hear you have reverted back to 2007 version. I know this is an putting buttons on an excel ribbon, but are your current methods similar to this? https://www.excelcampus.com/vba/add-macro-buttons-excel-ribbon-toolbar/

Yes, pretty much. I do like that in 2019 Excel, I can pick macros for a particular workbook, whereas in 2007 it was all or nothing.
I can setup a template in 2019, but that involves extra clicks.

When I worked for Lloyds Bank, I could give a colleague my outcmd.dat and they would have the same functions as myself.
I have a list of templates under a template button and macros under a Macros button.

I could not see how to emulate that in 2019, and as I mentioned no one in about 4 forums came back with a answer? :(

I am more than happy with 2007 outlook, but would like the autocorrect to work. I might search the registry to see if anything is in that. It still works in 2019.

So what's different in Outlook?

In 2019 ( I am not going to open it again), there appears no ability to add QA entries as I can in Outlook 2007.
I can add an open Form icon, but then have to select the required template from the template folder.
Nor can I run any macroes I have created that exist on another sub menu.

Just these two were enough for me to revert back to 2007. I am more than happy with Excel 2019, I have access to more functions and that QA icons for particular files is really handy. Not played around much with Word at present.

The only reason for 2019 was to be able to assist on other forums with later version Access DBs uploaded, which with 2007, I was unable to open.

Outlook appears to be a step backward to me.?

There are lots of comments on the net that Microsoft is slowly making Outlook less adaptable via VBA

Yes, do not go for the New Outlook. That no longer allows VBA.
