Hi
I have a bunch of Word doc which I put in the internet. Manually, I tried to attach one of those docs to a template in WORD by doing:
1) TOOLS
2) Templates and Add-Ins
3) In the Document Template box, I typed: http://www.edmonton.ca/report.dot
and click OK.
Eventhough I know for sure that report.dot exist in that folder but it displayed a message th at said:
Word can not open this document template
Is there a way to attach a template based on url to a Word doc?
Thanks for your help.

Hmmmmm. You do not happen to be cross-posting, are you?
In any case, could you explain more WHY you want to do this?

Yes and No, this is a different problem I encounter. I have a bunch of report on the internet, they are ok to look at without the functionalities that comes with the report.dot. The report.dot has automation to preset a bunch of format set up.
Although, it is not a bad idea to have the Printing Macro available the same way as well. But I am not sure if I want to maintain another template for just printing.
Thanks for your reply.
Is it doable to attach a template based on url to a Word doc?

I am not sure...I don't think so. But why not - assuming you have access to the original docs - not just simply use the template on them, and post them back up?
Again...WHY do you need to do this with a URL?

Further...you give NO explanation of why "the" printing macro would have to be in a separate template. WHY would it have to be? Why not put it in the one you ARE trying to attach?

This just in case my WEB services got move to another physical server with different name. Not sure if I have used the right term. I actually mean if all the reports got physically moved to another server, if the http://www.edmonton.ca/report.dot references to the right server than I only have to update the server information in one place, instead of updating the server information in every report.
You are right again, the printing macro can be incorporated in the same report.dot template. No reason why not to.
Well, if I have no choice I have to supply the absolute address \\servername\folderName\report.dot (file://\\servername\folderName\report.dot) so the macro will be available.

I don't think you have much choice. Sorry.
