I am attempting to import a text file and am using the fixed width dialog box placing the arrows where each field breaks. When I am done, I get the error message "too many line continuations". Is there a work around for this?

How many fields are you trying to import?

Well since there are only 256 columns in Excel you can't import 400 fields.:)

Each field equates to one column.

Depending on what it is you actually want to do with these 400 columns you could import them to an Office Web Component Spreadsheet ActiceX Object (OWC9.DLL,OWC10.DLL, OWC11.DLL) which you simply place on a userform. You will need a reference to Microsoft Office XP Web Components however.

That way you have access to upto column ZZZ (18272) columns and row 262144.

You will not be able to use much of Excels functionality as these are cutdown objects, but you can filter sort copy ect and then move the subsetted data to main worksheets within your workbook.
