Shared Spreadsheet

I have a spreadsheet that is set up as shared. There are approximately 8 people sharing it at once. There could be up to 30 others with view only access to the spreadsheet. Excel is crashing when we try to do a sort. Can anyone share their experience of a similar issue and how they resolved it?

This thread deals with a similar problem except they are trying to update an addin. Similar problem though. You may have to restrict write access to all users except one during the sort....hth
