Lock Down Styles, Not Formatting

In MS Word 2003, when I lock down Styles with Document Protection, it locks down the formatting toolbar, too. Is there a way to lock down styles, but not have other formatting options locked down (e.g., the Formatting Toolbar, Format Painter)? :thumb

Not sure about 2003, but in 2002 protecting a document does not explicitly lock down Styles. It prevent edit/format changes. That includes any formatting changes. That is the point.

So unless 2003 is different, the answer is no.
