Respect for the Aged Day - September 20

Those of us in that category will be patiently waiting for you. That is, if we can hear you screaming at the door to let you in! Speak up, sonny! We're hard of hearin' - and maybe a little tired of hearin' too!

Sod that! The Delgados and Nick Cave both have new albums out; that's more important. ;)

If they can't do a good waltz or polka, what would they want to put out them thar 78 records for? Course, I spose you're a-tellin' me that they moved on to that new fangled gadget called 33 1/3 LP, or Long Playin' for you youngins, huh? Wait till they tangle with shades - then they know what is Long Playin'!! ;)

Stewart doesn't actually have a photograph of himself having never been on the soul capturing side of a camera for over four years. Well, he's been on the photo side of a camera but not of a personal one so others have photos of him; just not him. :)

Yes, he does. ;)

Shades: Tintypes? Okay, that is so waaay before my time. I'm 25 dude. ;) Does that mean you can upload it? We're in the digital era now.

'The Stew': And if you can relay to 'The Stew' that the presence of a photograph of his would be a great addition to his profile, that would be greatly appreciated. :D

A few years ago my teenage son and a few of his friends found my old albums from the 60's. They wanted to listen to some of the old music that they had never heard so they found my old dual record player(state of the art in its day) and hooked it up to their receiver. They were gone for a while, listening to the old tunes and then they suddenly show up with one of the vinyl disks with a problem....Dad, this only plays half of the songs listed on the cover? ......Children of the CD era had never heard the saying..."The Flip Side" True story, thought it might give you a chuckle.

What makes September 20 more aged than any other day? Similarly, why should we show it any more respect? :)

ROTL, Richie!!

Lucas,

Your story is a great illustration of differences in generations. When I was in my early teens, my grandmother was going to turnover to her son (my uncle) the record player her father had. It played the cylinder records with the grooves on the outside, long before the 78's came on the scene. It had a handcrank, and I remember she cranked it up and we listened to Al Jolson on the cylinder records. A great treat for me at the time.

Many years ago I had a photograph of my great-great grandmother (on my father's side) and me - I was a baby sitting in her lap. She was born in 1849. Apparently she died not long after that photo was taken. Unfortunately I have not seen the photo for almost 40 years, never knew what happened to it.

======

So, you only have a few hours left, before you pay appropriate respects (yes, even to Sept. 20th, if you must ;) ).

MONDAY IS HERE! :D

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who consider's themselves 'Aged'. Without you we wouldn't be here - and if we were here, we wouldn't have half the things we do or know half the things we know. I salute you. Thank you.
