Access won't reopen upon closing

An old customer of mine had some computer people in to 'clean up' their workstations. Now when they close an MS Access application, it refuses to reopen. You have to Ctl,Alt,Del and stop MS Access thru the Task Manager before you can use another MS Access application, or even restart the original application.

Any ideas on how to get around this?

The users apparently did a Windows update at the same time their workstations were 'cleaned up'. Is this possibly another Microsoft screw-up with the Windows update? It's happened before.
