Any artists out there?

I am hoping someone more creative than I can help me improve my avatar (well actually it is more of a logo, but the avatar shows it). I am relatively happy with the overall style of the image, but I think it could be made more appealing, maybe with a more fluid (dare I say dynamic) look with more depth. I have a number of graphical packages, but I don't have any real ability in this area, and I don't really know where to begin.

I have the image a s .png file. Anyone any ideas on how to improve it?
