    Solved: 2007 Personal.xlsb info

    Hi all,

I have xl2000, and i left it on, and installed xl2007.

With excel 2000 my Personal.xls is in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

I have Macros and custom Toolbars in it. (all work fine)

Now in 2007 all the custom Toolbars show up in "Add-Ins<Menu Commands".
This is fine and everything works.

I have rcorded Macros in 2007.

I do not have an Personal.xlsb on hard drive, as 2007 is using the
    Personal.xls from xl2000.

Is this any kind of a problem, that should be fixd??
Should i make another Personal with the xlsb extention??

This is from help. I can edit it in VBE but whats the Unhide Command, Its not "Window> Unhide" anymore??
Tip: You cannot edit your Personal Macro Workbook file (Personal.xlsb) because it is a hidden workbook that is always open. You must first unhide it by using the Unhide command. You can also open it in the Visual Basic Editor by pressing ALT+F11.

I keep different personal workbooks in different XLSTART directories.

    Excel 2002:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2002\OFFICE10\XLSTART

    Excel 2003:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2003\OFFICE11\XLSTART

    Excel 2007:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2007\OFFICE12\XLSTART

It means a little bit of duplication, but less cross talk and incompatibility between versions. If you tried having the XLS and the XLSB files in the same XLSTART, either Excel would be opening both files upon start-up.

I agree with Jon, keep them separate, but there shouldn't be any reason why you would need to get rid of them. You can always set the option of where to have Excel look (per application version) to open its workbooks on start from. Keeping the xls file will keep it functional across the board, but you won't be able to use the new 2007 functionality on it (at least save it).

    Hi Jon & Firefytr,

Thanks for clearing this up for me, and possibly others. I can't get it to work properly but i will keep messing with it. At least i know what can be done.

    Thanks for your input.
