Help: How to hide ActiveX checkbox in word

I'm trying to create a document that has a series of checkboxes. When selected, it will hide/unhide 2nd level level checkboxes and text. I have successfully hid bookmarked text sections but the activex checkboxes will not go away. Any clues or another way to acheive what I trying to do?

There is a kind of work around, but I have to say I am not a real fan of cute hiding of document portions. On userforms...yes, showing/hiding structure on a userform seems valid to me. There can be valid cases for hiding parts of a document, but IMHO they are very few, and far between.

ActiveX controls are not affected by Hidden font, for example. That is, in fact, the point of ActiveX controls. You can resize them though. I have done this dynamically, resizing controls to a single pixel. But again, this is being "cute" IMO, and should be used with great restraint.
When selected, it will hide/unhide 2nd level level checkboxes and text.
To me...this sounds like a userform.
