Solved: Hardware: Intel 975X with Core2Duo E6850 bootup issues

I know this is hardware and not programming, but here goes:

I have just bought an Intel 975X motherboard and a Core2Duo E6850 processor,
and when I try to boot is up, the fan whirrs for ages, and the screen stays
black, and the system speaker doesn't make the usual beep.

I tried the motherboard with my old processor, which works fine, so I am now
    wondering if either:
    1) the Processor is not compatible, despite being the same socket set
    2) The PSU is powerful enough to support the processor
    3) the Processor is damaged

    Any ideas?

Just a guess but if your old processor works and new one doesn't the jumper steeings are incorrect, you will need to open the users manual, find the section for processors and make sure the jumpers are set correct for your new processor.

turns out the processor is too advanced for the motherboard. Which is a shame as these 2 were recommended from a magazine.
-Once my PC stopped working, so I kicked it......Then it started working again
