Hi All,

In chart edit mode set the fill to none (you can't set transparency here)
When you return to slide edit mode> Right click > format object, now you can set transparency

Thanks John
But I did not intend to fill all chart,
I just intend to fill the bar in the chart, and set it transparency
thanks and regards
AFAIK the only way to that is to ungroup the chart.

But what I experience is quite interested.
I use Powerpoint 2007 at home to draw the 3D chart, then set the bar color to 50% transparency (Powerpoint 2007 have that option). Then, I save the powerpoint into Powerpoint 2003 file.
And when I re-open the file in 2003, the chart is still 50% transparency. But again, I can not change it
Please find attachment for more details.
As below text, you can see the transparency can be adjust to 72%. And actually the chart bar is transparency.(see attachment)
(replied in excel forum) but for the record here - it can't be done in 2003 and you have found a loophole.
Enjoy,
Tony
