    Solved: spreadsheet formatting problems

I have a question with formatting a excel spreadsheet. First, I export data into the spreadsheet (hundreds of entries). All the data is in format "TEXT", even the dates.
Question 1 - Is there a easy way to format the columns that contain dates?
I have used "convert" and selected the column, went to format to a date field, but then it appears that I have to double click on each cell for the formatting to be true. I know this is probably simple, but I cannot find the solution.
If you look at the attached example, Sheet 1056, column K and M has some individual cells (date format) and some cells that are formatted to "Text"
Any help with converting the text dates to date dates will be greatly appreciated.

    Select your Date column(s). Choose
Data>Text to Columns. Go to the 3rd Panel of the wizard and select Date (Choose a style from the dropdown). Click Finish
