Solved: slow to open a workbook

I have been asked to work on a workbook that is large and has many intersheet links and many formulae. (It is constantly "calculating cells")

When I open the workbook the whole screen goes blank and it takes ages to open.

Does anyone know why this is happening. Is it re-calculating the cells before it opens? What is it doing? I tried to use Application.Calculation = xlManual in Workbook.Open but it was still slow.

There is no code in the workbook just a shed load of formulae and links to other sheets in the same book. (i.e it groups and summarises the data for different reports)

I've some workbooks at 40+Mb. Click Open and get some fresh coffee.

Post a workbook with sample data and layout if you want a quicker solution.
